Nostalgic Children's Day Shoot

This year I decided to indulge myself in one of my fondest creative influences, nostalgic victorian children’s photography á la Lewis Carroll or Julia Margret Cameron. I went full on no holds barred nostalgia, with a little exception for the colour tint.

The set up was simple enough using classic motifs such as the backdrop, one of our own hand-painted backdrops, a traditional wool rug and background items such as a large vase of flowers and random traditional toys. And a fake dog! All of which we already owned.

The props were based on children playing soldiers with swords and bugles - it was an exceptionally loud bugle by the way! But the most fun was producing paper hats from old newspaper flower wrapping we found which we had the girls fold themselves. It was definitely a fun shoot which I think comes across in the expressions of my two daughters.
